Many kids rather send their friends messages over Friendster, Facebook, and Orkut then give them a call or pay them a visit. This trend has grown over the years and has many behavioral psychologists worried about the long term effects of such behavior. Having said that a recent study concluded that over 55percent of the kids between the ages of 10 and 18 were addicted to the internet and social networks in particular.
Concerned parents find it difficult to pull their kids away from the internet since they work most of the time and their computer’s passwords are not strong enough to keep their kids at bay. However according to many child psychologists there is no easy solution to this problem except from gradually pulling your kids away from the awe they experience from computers and social networks.
Kids should only be allowed to use the computer for a specific duration after which they should be encouraged to take part in physical activities such as sports. Enroll your kid in a program that lets him spend his day playing with other kids. This will gradually draw your kid away from the side effect of social networks.
