Have you ever wondered why magpies have a reputation for stealing things that are shiny? Recent experiments have shown that magpies can recognise themselves in mirrors, which is a feat that has rarely been seen amongst birds. Thus far, self-recognition has been limited to humans, monkeys, elephants and dolphins making this an exceptional discovery. (more…)

Dolly

Most people have heard of Dolly the sheep, who was successfully cloned in 1997. Since then several other mammals have been cloned and the debate of the moralities of cloning has been ongoing ever since. Is it right or wrong to clone animals and plants? Are we messing with nature and the way that things are meant to be? Although we can be certain that cloning will be part of our futures, it has not yet been determined to what extent. (more…)
